On this Cluster of Excellence
Today, modern science and innovative engineering are almost no longer possible without the computation of the behaviour of matter and materials at various scales. Through computer simulation, experts are enabled to make important predictions that would not have been possible without the methods of novel simulation technologies. For example, atomic, molecular and macroscopic processes can be successfully coupled and interpreted by scale-bridging techniques.
The challenge lies in the coupling of different physical and chemical processes at different scales and in the integration of these effects in a joint simulation tool. Herein, the coupling of electrical, chemical, and mechanical properties plays a significant role in smart materials, for instance.
At the Cluster of Excellence in “Simulation Technology” at the University of Stuttgart, chemists, physicists, biologists and engineers jointly operate with mathematicians and computer scientists. This will provide an important contribution to the development of novel simulation tools for the future.
