On this Institutional Strategy
LMU Munich has set itself the task of optimizing conditions for top-level research and enhancing its research profile. In accordance with its institutional strategy “LMUexcellent”, the university is implementing a catalogue of measures focused on academic excellence, interdisciplinarity, international networking, the promotion of junior academics and guaranteeing high standards of research. These measures include 19 research professorships enabling distinguished LMU scholars to dedicate themselves wholly to research for a period of up to five years. The Center for Advanced Studies promotes academic exchanges among and between recognized researchers and young academics − across the boundaries of individual disciplines and countries. The Center for Leadership and People Management is a unique programme designed to improve skills in personnel management. Streamlining of appointment procedures, which may now be conducted proactively in appropriate cases, has permitted LMU to attract leading researchers from all over the world. As well as extending the range of services and training options for doctoral students offered by the Graduate Center, LMU awards well-funded Research Fellowships to outstanding postdocs from all over the world. In order to ensure equality of opportunity, the university runs a mentoring program for exceptionally gifted young female academics, which promotes their professional development on their paths to professorships.
