Multifunctional materials
On this Graduate School
The graduate school „Materials Science in Mainz“ combines the knowledge of Chemistry, Physics and Biology to a deep understanding of the materials of tomorrow. At the same time doctoral students of MAINZ follow the 500 year old tradition of the first material scientist: Johannes Gutenberg. In participating research groups, natural scientists from the whole world meet to do research together. The scientific vision of the graduate school is the rational design of multifunctional hybrid materials while combining scientific findings from different areas, particularly of soft and hard matter. This requires a multidisciplinary approach and an ambitious cooperation of theory and experiment. Thereby, the graduate school is embedded in a premium of academic institutions consisting of research groups from Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Max-Planck-Institute of Polymer Research in Mainz and Technical University of Kaiserslautern which all aspire to collaborate closely with industrial partners.
