On this Institutional Strategy

Semper Apertus: Always open. Through its future concept, Heidelberg University will continue to justify this motto, and aspires to fully realise and live up to the maximum potential of the modern comprehensive university offering a wide spectrum of disciplines. The foundational principle of this concept is building bridges, between faculties and subjects, between university and non-university research institutions, between academia and business.

The centrepiece of this plan is a dialogue concerning traditional disciplinary borders and cultures. The goal of the dialogue is to provide substantial input toward the solutions to the big questions in humanity’s future. An example of this is the Marsilius Kolleg, which is a place where innovative, interdisciplinary concepts are implemented. Another example is the transcultural studies research field, which is taking a new approach to the study of various epochs and continents. In order to improve research conditions, and to support young scientists, a further pillar of the future concept of the Universität Heidelberg is expanding and strengthening its network of contacts with its national and international partners. The cooperation between the Centre for Molecular Biology and the German Cancer Research Foundation constitutes a new level of cooperation between university and non-university research.

With this future concept, the Universität Heidelberg is building a bridge to the future. The future: since 1386.
