On this Cluster of Excellence
In order to understand the concurrence of biological networks scientists must first coordinate their networking efforts. In Heidelberg collaboration of researchers in the biosciences with those from other disciplines is everyday practice: The Heidelberg Cluster of Excellence Cellular Networks has established interdisciplinary technical service centers, Core Facilities, whose resources are available for scientists such as virologist Kathleen Boerner for scientific services. Aided by the Core Facilities Boerner wants to find out how HI viruses interact with cellular networks. We need to understand what regulates the virus to develop new therapies to fight it. CellNetworks attempts to explain how cellular networks function and to develop mathematical models of their alterations. This requires the collaboration of researchers – scientists as well as doctoral candidates and students – of many disciplines: Biology, Medicine, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
