On this Cluster of Excellence
How has climate changed in the course of centuries and millenia? How does this change affect the oceans, the land and the atmosphere? What conclusions can we draw for the future? Reliable predictions with the help of climate models constitute the research focus of the cluster of excellence Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction (CLISAP) at the University of Hamburg. A further key task is the investigation of regional effects and risks as well as the impacts of climate change on cities.
Can humanity keep global change within tolerable bounds? If so, how can society create the necessary conditions for this? In Hamburg, natural and social scientists cooperate closely. The cluster includes not only members of the University but also of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, the Institute for Coastal Research of the GKSS Research Centre Geesthacht. The partner for the highly complex computer simulations is the German Climate Computing Centre. The cluster forms the nucleus of the “KlimaCampus”, further strengthening Hamburg’s international standing as a centre of climate competence.
