From Bench to Bedside
On this Cluster of Excellence
The focus of the Cluster of Excellence Cardiopulmonary System is on research of heart and lung diseases.
Research spans from studies on stem cells in development and regeneration processes and studies on molecular regulation to clinical applications. E.g. newts can regenerate organs, which mammals cannot do. A long term goal of the cluster is to make this ability available to humans. In the meantime, improvements in stem cell therapy and new insights into molecular regulation mechanisms aid the development of novel therapeutic concepts for affected patients.
The translational, trans-institutional cooperation of Frankfurt, Giessen and Bad Nauheim creates synergies that facilitate and accelerate progress in the treatment of heart and lung diseases. The interdisciplinary cooperation of basic scientists, preclinical and clinical researchers completes this concept bringing new therapies directly from bench to bedside.
