On this Graduate School
Research in the study of culture has made tremendous progress over the past 20 years, examining cultural history and contemporary culture, social structures and human behaviour. At the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) PhD-students from a wide range of different disciplines in the humanities and social sciences work together with postdocs and professors in research groups. Interdisciplinary research, extensive mentoring, lively collaboration between scholars at the GCSC, and numerous international networks support PhD students in pursuing their doctoral projects, and in preparing them for the time after the PhD. “Your PhD – A Foundation for the Future”: this is the motto of the Career Service at the Graduate Centre. Offering workshops as well as providing access to the GCSC-Alumni-network, it supports PhD students in planning their future careers and opens up perspectives in both the academic and non-academic field. The Teaching Centre also contributes to the further qualification of PhD-students: Today, didactic skills supporting qualified knowledge-transfer are sought-after not only within university, but also outside the academic domain. No matter which road the PhD-students will take, the GCSC prepares them for an international career and provides an excellent foundation for the future.
