Normative Orders

Globalisation, climate change, wars, shortages of resources – our societies are undergoing profound changes. These processes provide the material for the researchers in the Cluster of Excellence 'The Formation of Normative Orders' at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. Representatives from a wide variety of disciplines – including history, political science, legal studies, philosophy, ethnology, economics, theology and sociology – have come together to form a collaborative research group devoted to analysing and understanding processes of transformation in the present and the past. This involves subjecting existing notions of order to critical examination and incorporating the different cultures, traditions and normative self-understandings of the participants. The goal of the Cluster of Excellence is to conduct interdisciplinary research which enables us to draw conclusions concerning the formation of new normative orders in the era of globalisation.
