On this Graduate School
How about attending a lecture course at a close-by university in order to gain a deeper knowledge of your favorite subject? Or attending lectures by video conference? These are options available at the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy, BCGS. Students benefit from the close cooperation between the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. The broad scientific spectrum of the School is further enhanced by the participation of the Research Center Jülich and the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn. Research activities of the School range from Particle and Nuclear Physics to Astrophysics, Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics as well as Photonics. Students have to be among the best 30% of their age group to be admitted to the School. By virtue of coordinated curricula and timing, BCGS students are able to obtain within five years first their Master’s and, subsequently, their doctoral degree. Throughout the five-year program, students are carefully supervised by mentors, and they are explicitly encouraged to visit a foreign research institution to broaden their scientific and personal horizons.
