To Network with Excellence

The Ruhr-University Research School is the only university-wide graduate school funded within the frame of the German Excellence Initiative. The campus-architecture of the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) together with the key idea of broadening the subject-specific “tunnel view” during the PhD has led to the concept of this graduate school. Here interdisciplinary exchange becomes a matter of course. The Research School is built upon the existing research areas at the RUB and cooperates closely with present doctoral programmes. More than 300 PhD projects are already implemented in the sections natural sciences and engineering, life sciences, and humanities and social sciences or within the twelve research areas. Within this international and interdisciplinary research environment a PhD with “added value” is offered, with interdisciplinary teams of experienced scientists supervising the PhD students. The Research School qualifies PhD students to be young researchers and responsible leaders, who take over responsibility beyond disciplinary and national boundaries.
