On this Cluster of Excellence

The Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is a new center for brain research embedded within the well-established reserach community of the Berlin universities and research institutions. Most neurological disorders are still considered incurable, and only their symptoms can be alleviated. To be better able in the future to treat diseases such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and developmental disorders of the central nervous system, scientists of the Charité along with colleagues from the Humboldt-University, the Free University and the non-university research institutions of the Leibniz and Helmholtz Associations are working on decoding disease mechanisms. The close interweaving of basic science and clinical research within the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure enables the translation of new scientific insights into clinical applications. Further, by filling 17 new professorships, the Cluster of Excellence is strengthening the local neuroscience research community for the long-term. NeuroCure is thus making a decisive contribution to the better understanding of neurological diseases and the development of new therapies.
