On this Institutional Strategy

As an International Network University, Freie Universität stands for first-class university management and global networking. With its future development strategy, the university aims to increase international exchange among scholars and academics, establish new research alliances, and support talented young scholars by offering them the best possible learning and working conditions. The International Network University strategy is based on three hubs: The Center for International Cooperation (CIC), the Center for Cluster Development (CCD), and Dahlem Research School (DRS). The Center for International Cooperation coordinates Freie Universität’s partnerships with over 150 leading universities throughout the world. Cross-national graduate programs, exchange of researchers, and cooperation agreements with the best international universities are all developed and guided by CIC. Institutions and transdisciplinary research alliances, or clusters, are initiated, supported, and steered by the Center for Cluster Development. The team at CCD assists researchers in setting up collaborations with partners inside and outside the university and in the development and project management of externally funded projects. Dahlem Research School, with its international and interdisciplinary focus, coordinates the education of graduate students and young researchers with structured Ph.D. programs. DRS aims, in particular, to support international candidates. With a strategic focus on international research networks, clusters, and training junior researchers, Freie Universität Berlin is striving for a position among the world’s leading universities.
