Doctoral Degree on the Fast Track
On this Graduate School
A grey shimmering pump unleashes colored threads on the screen - it’s a three-dimensional simulation of a finger-sized life-saving implantable device. This blood pump could be applied in biomedical engineering in the near future. Computational Engineering plays a key role in the process and product design as well as the production planning. Among others, the graduate school “Aachen Institute for Advanced Study in Computational Engineering Science” (AICES) puts the emphasis on the analysis und synthesis of technical systems. The extensive application area covers materials science, chemical process engineering, transportation systems, electrical engineering, and geoscience. About 60 doctoral candidates enjoy a special supervision – every doctoral candidate is advised by a team consisting of junior and senior scientific advisors, as well as a senior student mentor. The doctoral candidates are able to reduce the time needed for the promotion significantly through intensive mentoring. Furthermore, the students benefit from the interdisciplinary environment at RWTH Aachen University.
